Faux flowers are no longer the brightly coloured plastic roses that used to collect dust on top of a cupboard. Today’s flowers are painstakingly sculpted to look as realistic as if they had just been picked from the garden. And the best thing is they will look like that through the Summer heat and Winter cold.
Although we give them the generic tag of “silk”, today’s faux flowers are generally made from a polyester cotton blend, with some of the lilies and similar blooms being created from latex. Many are even created with deliberate faults like “rain spots” and slight discolouring of petals – all to make the flowers as realistic as possible.
Even with the advent of modern technology, you will find a large variation in the quality of faux flowers available so it is a good idea to check out the quality before you purchase particularly if you are buying wedding flowers.

Now just a little about me, as I’m sure you would rather learn more about our gorgeous blooms!!! My name is Sue and in case you hadn’t noticed, I have an absolute passion for flowers!!! As well as running Angel Blooms, my partner Geoff and I also have a “vintage chic” shop, “The Vintage Garden” in the small, historic town of Buninyong, near Ballarat in Victoria. You may have seen our ads in Country Home Ideas and Australian Country Collections. When I am not in the shop or creating floral bouquets, I can be found on our farm where we raise the beautiful South American llamas, so yes, life is very full.
